There is no restriction on the location of the files used to create the Menu and each item (menu.swf , menu.xml, Background image) can be in different location or even different websites.
The demo / download version has been coloured for the included background image which can be replaced with your own image or Flash file (Animation, Company Banner, etc) and all the colours and text can be changed to then match or complement the new background.
